History
Specialty Systems (SpecSys Inc.) was founded in 1997. In its early stages the home-based consulting business primarily supported the design and engineering departments of machinery and equipment manufacturers. With the addition of 3D CAD design/drafting, engineering analysis, and finite element analysis (FEA), SpecSys quickly grew to include additional staff.
In 1999, several clients urged for expansion into prototyping, testing, and tooling development. Starting in Montevideo industrial park, the manufacturing operation acquired the metal fabrication, weld, paint and assembly tools needed to provide for a full turnkey service.
SpecSys Inc. manufacturing operations quickly outgrew this location, and in the fall of 2002 a new 110,000 square foot facility located in Granite Falls, MN was acquired. Not only did this new facility provide for a safe haven away from the flooding Minnesota River, but brought with it a much improved facility for the heavy steel industries now being supported by SpecSys Inc..
As SpecSys Inc. manufacturing grew, it became apparent that the market for trained welders was limited in the Montevideo and Granite Falls area. In the fall of 2004, a weld shop in Redwood Falls, MN was opened. Today this weld operation provides nearly 30,000 additional hours annually of trained welding labor.
SpecSys Inc. most recent expansion has been into the Milwaukee area with a small engineering and drafting staff. This location not only allows for a nice storefront in the heart of a very good industrial market, but it allows for better access to experienced engineers and technical staff.
SpecSys Inc. currently employs 150 people, providing
a quarter million hours annually of direct labor and
engineering services. In the fall of 2005 SpecSys Inc.
was named the entrepreneurial business of the year
for Southwest MN, providing recognition to the
employees for a job well done. This job well done is reinforced by the fact that SpecSys Inc.
provides nearly $35,000,000 worth of annual
economic stimulus
to the West
Central MN
communities,
as computed by
the MN State
Office of the Chamber of
Commerce.
